Shari Harper: Voice and Piano Lessons

Shari Harper grew up in Northern Virginia in a family of musicians, where her love for music began at an early age. She started piano lessons at just six years old and has been playing piano and singing throughout her life.

Her musical experience spans church choirs and worship teams, high school and college choirs, church talent competitions, and numerous solo performances. One of her most memorable singing engagements was performing the “Star-Spangled Banner” a cappella at the retirement ceremony of a five-star Surgeon General of the U.S. Army in Arlington, Virginia.

Shari studied voice for approximately five years throughout high school and then in college. Over the years, she has taken on various roles as a music teacher, directing children’s choirs and variety shows, as well as accompanying soloists and choirs on the piano.

In 2006, Shari began teaching group piano lessons, and in 2018, she expanded her music teaching repertoire to include private voice lessons. From 2019 to 2021, she taught piano and voice at Playground Music Center before returning to private teaching part-time. She is excited to continue sharing her passion for music through her recent opportunity to teach piano and voice at Studio 237 Music Lessons.

Shari has experience teaching students ranging in age from 6 to 85 years old. As a dedicated music teacher, she believes every student is unique, which is why she creates customized lesson plans based on each student’s skill level, learning style, and individual piano or singing goals.

Her lessons incorporate the fundamentals of music, including technique, music theory, exercises, and a variety of song selections. She provides detailed feedback on practice methods and progress while helping students develop confidence and a genuine enjoyment of music.

Above all, Shari strives to create a positive, inspiring, and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable learning, growing, and discovering their own musical abilities.
