Don has been playing guitar for 20 years. His father was influential in helping him
remain dedicated to learning his instrument, as well as introducing him to various
styles of music. Don discovered his passion for guitar and music when he began lessons at the age 12. His teacher made it evident that he had a gifting, natural ear and understanding of music. Only one year later, at the age of 13, Don began playing in local blues jams in the DC (District of Columbia) area. He not only gained experience from local bands, but also from some national blues legends, most notably Daryl Davis. This experience helped him to hone his ability to play solo and lead guitar. Don enjoys playing various styles of music including (but not limited To): the blues, rock and roll, funk, R&B, country, and fusion.
At the age of 20, Don decided to serve our country and joined the U.S. Navy. He served for seven years as a Hospital Corpsman attached to Marine Units and carried his guitar in tow every step of the way. Upon leaving the Navy, Don moved to the Florida Panhandle and began to further pursue his vision for a career in music.
Since moving to this area, Don has held the role of lead guitar player in
various local bands and has quickly become known for his unique voice and ability on the guitar. Most notably, he played lead guitar for the Luke Langford Band where together they opened for national acts such as: Travis Trip, Cole Swindell, and the Eli Young Band.
Currently, Don is excited to hold the role of lead guitar and sound engineer with
singer/songwriter Casey Kearney. To enhance his musical abilities, he is in his fourth semester of earning his bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music online, where he will obtain a degree in guitar performance. Don is maximizing his understanding of guitar performance, composition, and theory which has prepared him to better impart his innate and learned gifting to others.
Since great students make great teachers/performers, we are very excited to have Don Dirkin Jr. join our teaching staff here at Studio 237 Music Lessons.
