First experiencing live music growing up in Cincinnati, Neil was captivated, and knew that he must perform. Neil began to effectuate his passion by playing trumpet in elementary school band and the Middletown Youth Symphony, as well as participating as a music student in the Ohio Gifted and Talented Education Program. Transitioning to french horn in middle and high school band, Neil competed in state competitions for wind ensemble and horn quartet. Developing his interest on various instruments, including guitar, bass, and mandolin and band performance, Neil moved to Florida in 2000 and has been playing professionally ever since. Blues, rock, bluegrass, country, honky tonk, swing, and jazz, are top genres that Neil has explored with numerous groups. In 2015 Neil was awarded the Beachcomber Award for best Mandolin Player. Currently, Neil performs unaccompanied, and as the bassist in Rob Pate & The Rib Bones. Neil values the enjoyment of playing music and desires to impart this eternal joy to his students.
